[size=14]The first people in Scotland will be vaccinated against Covid-19 on Tuesday, after the Pfizer/BioNTech coronavirus vaccine was approved for widespread use.

Refrigerated containers holding the vaccine doses, which need to be kept at -70C, have been arriving in the UK from Belgium, where it is made, and are being moved from secure locations to the hospitals where vaccinations will take place.

Those who will be immunising other people will be the first to receive the vaccine.

[b]How will the vaccine be rolled out in Scotland?[/b]
An initial batch of 65,000 doses arrived in Scotland over the weekend, the Scottish government said, with more doses on the way.

Two doses are required about three weeks apart, so supplies will be halved, allowing the second dose can be given within the timeframe.

The first delivery went straight into ultra cold freezers to be stored at -70C.

The freezers are based at all major acute hospitals across the country and on Scotland's islands.

[b]Who will be vaccinated first?[/b]
160 vaccinators are poised to start work, and after they have received their own injections work will begin on vaccinating other health and social care workers.

From 14 December, the vaccine will be administered to care home residents.

Eventually everyone in Scotland over the age of 18 will be offered a vaccination. That's 4.4m people.

GPs, pharmacists and optometrists are expected to be among 2,000 people recruited by the end of January to administer the vaccines.

The UK's Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) has drawn up advice on who should be offered the jab.
